You know, I actually feel that with AI, I can finally meet those expectations. At least in my life, the expectations have been extremely high for as long as I can remember. Maybe it’s because I’m a woman, so “a good girl must be perfect all the time.”
For example, English is not my first language. Yet I’m expected to be flawless. At work, I don’t dare make a grammatical mistake or put words in the wrong order. I see leaders roll their eyes. Later, I hear them being pissed about it. It’s the same when I’m chatting with a native speaker. These expectations touch many parts of my life, not just English.
So with AI, instead of constantly stressing about making a mistake, I finally have a tool that helps me meet the bar.
Thank you Aina this is such a great take! I can definitely understand and relate as English is not my first language either, and I still find myself sometimes stumbling over my words and making grammatical errors. I think AI is actually helping a lot of people meet that bar as you mentioned, but at the same time that bar is being raised by the minute as a result of AI as well, and this is the invisible expectation I was referring to.
Thank you very much I really appreciate it! Could be because I’ve lived here my whole life but I actually didn’t speak English at all until the age of 5.
For me, the bar has always felt absolute. AI just can't raise it further; it just makes it easier to carry. I know it's the wrong way to say and to feel, but I'm a little bit happy about the bars getting higher for everyone - I finally don't feel alone there :)
It’s absolutely not the wrong way to say or feel, everyone has their own individual experience so no worries there! It is true though that bar is being constantly raised for everyone so I agree with you 100%!
There’s something unsettling about how quietly expectations rise. Once better output is easy, both delay and rough edges start to feel like flaws instead of normal parts of the process.
Thank you Ethics in Beta! You really hit the nail on the head here, it is absolutely unsettling and this rise in expectations has really crept up on us.
This is such a great observation. I have definitely observed that the baseline at a technological level has shifted significantly in the past couple of months. Now all we need is for the societal one to keep pace.
Thank you Sam! The past couple months have been a major shift indeed, and every passing day the bar moves, resulting in these invisible expectations and everyone constantly trying to keep up. Now is more important than ever to take a breath and slow down, this is where Slow AI hits home!

Honestly, life has never felt easier or better.

By the way, it doesn't feel like English is not your first language when you go live :)

Just curious, what is your first language? ( Feel free not to answer if you feel this way :) )
Thanks for asking! It is Hebrew.
I agree, for many people AI is raising the bar.
