For a long time, AI consciousness sounded like a future problem.

Maybe science fiction.

Maybe philosophy.

Maybe something for later.

The immediate questions were easier to name.

Bias.

Privacy.

Safety.

Jobs.

Misinformation.

Those were human problems.

They affected people directly.

So AI ethics stayed mostly focused on us.
